At 1:35 AM, the Smith Township Fire Department responded to the report of a two vehicle head-on crash north of the intersection of US 33 and 550 North, 1/2 mile north of Churubusco.

Chief Roger Bennett, Captain Tadd Shively & Firefighter Kris Bair were first to arrive on-scene and found a Cadillac Sedan and Jeep Compass SUV in a head-on motor vehicle accident. The occupants of the Cadillac were setting next to the vehicle complaining of minor injuries.

The driver of the Jeep was sitting in the vehicle suffering from minor lower leg injuries. The patient’s were treated by Rescue personnel from Smith Twp. Fire Dept. until Whitley County Medic 21 and Medic 11 arrived; the patient’s were transported by Medic 21 and Medic 11 in stable condition to an area hospital.
