On Friday, September 26th, 2008 at 1:19 PM, the Smith Township Fire Department responded to the report of a farm tractor accident in the 1300 block of North Johnson Road, 4.5 miles southwest of Churubusco.

When Smith Township Fire/Rescue and Whitley County EMS units arrived on-scene they found a medium duty farm tractor that was attempting to pull a log out of a ditch had rolled over backwards on the operator of the tractor.

Whitley County EMS personnel pronounced the operator of the tractor deceased after arrival.

Smith Township Fire/Rescue units remained on scene to help the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department and Whitley County Coroner in extricating the operator from the tractor.
