Ice Creates Havoc

Incident Date 26 December 2008 by Chris Tomlinson

A lengthy ice storm created some serious problems for not only motorists, but emergency personnel Friday morning.

Emergency units were called to the area of U.S. 33 & Blue Lake Road for a head-on collision involving two SUV vehicles.

Fire captain Tadd Shively arrived to find a man in serious condition and trapped in his vehicle.

As fire units crawled their way towards the incident, even the multi-ton vehicle couldn’t maintain it’s traction on the ice covered roads and found itself stuck on the highway. They immediately called for the smaller 4-wheel grass rigs to transport extrication equipment to the scene.

Following the incident Churubusco town crews came out to spread salt and sand in the area to assist the fire department in returning the equipment back to the station.
