Van rollover on U.S. 33 injures one man

Fire crews responded to U.S. 33 and the Noble/Whitley County line Sunday evening for a reported motor vehicle accident.

Command units arrived to find a full-sized van flipped on it’s side with a man trapped inside.

Crews had to cut approximately 25% of the roof off to extricate the man who was then transported to an area hospital in fair condition.

The accident remains under investigation.

Teen seriously hurt in crash

A 16-year old Goshen teen lost control of his car Sunday evening and then over corrected, sending him through a front yard and smashing his Mazda into a tree on the drivers door.

The teen was flown to Parkview Hospital via Samaritan in serious condition.

Qualities we’re looking for are:

Energy to be part of a great organization
Not afraid of a little dirt and/or sweat

Minimum qualifications are:

18 years of age or older
Live within the coverage area (roughly 5-6 miles in either direction from ‘Busco)

Tree crushes house during storms

A very large tree fell on top of a mobile home during the Thursday afternoon storms. A dog inside the home escaped injury – there was no one else home when the tree fell.

The tree did land on and move the homes propane tank, but crews determined there was no immediate threat.

Churubusco seemed to have received the brunt of the storm as several reports of trees down around the Blue Lake and town area were reported to the 9-1-1 center. Some houses in the Blue Lake area seemed to have received minor damage from the winds as well.

Semi collides with car – U.S. shut down

A collision at U.S. 33 & 750 East caused a major headache for commuters Wednesday evening when a southbound semi rear-ended a passenger car waiting to turn onto the county road.

No one was injured in the accident, but crews were on scene for almost 2-hours helping sheriff deputies direct traffic.

Wednesday afternoon at approximately 2:00 P.M. a southbound semi lost control and rolled over at U.S. 33 & Clingerman Avenue on the north edge of Churubusco.

Crews arrived to find a semi trailer loaded with corn had flipped, dumping it’s entire load onto the highway and into neighbors yards.

No one was injured in the accident but a northbound vehicle did receive heavy damage from the flying debris.

The highway was restricted to one lane for over 8-hours while INDOT and company crews worked to clean up the spilled corn.

U.S. 33 shut down again for serious accident

For the third time in as many weeks U.S. 33 near Churubusco had to be shut down due to a serious accident.

This one occurred north of the Noble/Whitley County Line when a southbound pickup truck hauling a trailer left the roadway for an unknown reason and collided head-on with a tree.

Churubusco and Noble Township units arrived and made quick work of the extrication for the driver of the pickup. He was then flown to an area hospital in serious condition.

No other vehicles were involved, nor was anyone else injured in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.

Two trucks collide killing one

Two trucks collided on U.S. 33 near Carroll Road around 2:00 P.M. this afternoon.

According to police the driver of an SUV was northbound on U.S. 33 and crossed the center line striking a pickup truck. The driver of that truck was pronounced dead on arrival, no one else was inside.

The driver of the SUV was transported via Samaritan helicopter to Parkview Hospital in critical condition.

Fire/Rescue crews from Churubusco, Washington Twp and even Fort Wayne City assisted at the scene.

Semi rolls on U.S. 33 shutting down highway

Churubusco fire responded to a personal injury accident Monday morning on U.S. 33 near the Noble/Whitley County Line.

Upon arrival fire chief Roger Bennett found a semi on it’s side completely blocking the busy highway.

The driver was transported to an area hospital complaining of pain.

The contents of the semi were not hazardous and the road had to be closed for several hours while crews worked to upright the tractor-trailer and empty its contents.

Barn fire assist on Hiler Road

Churubusco units were called to the 6500 block of Hiler Road just south of Coesse Wednesday evening for a barn fire.

Three other departments were already on the scene when ‘Busco crews arrived, but extra hands were needed to help remove a large amount of burning hay from the burnt out structure.

Churubusco units cleared the scene at approximately 9:30 PM. No injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.
