Man critically injured in industrial accident

An employee at C&A Tool in Churubusco was critically injured when a machine malfunctioned.

Rescue & EMS crews treated the man at the scene and then he was transported to the Churubusco High School and then flown to Parkview Hospital via Samaritan.

Man gets caught in auger at AgPlus

A man was seriously injured Monday morning when his leg was pulled into the auger of one of the main grain bins at AgPlus.

Churubusco firefighters and EMS arrived to find that he had worked his way free from the machine and was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Rescue On Top of Library Roof

Emergency rescuers were called to the Churubusco Public Library at 1:00 p.m. Aug. 12 to help a man who had accidentally cut himself while using a power washer.

Fire rescue and EMS personnel decided that the safest way to get the man off the roof would be a ladder truck, with the closest one being in Columbia City. Not too long after they were requested a “man lift” from C&A showed up and safely removed the man and rescue workers from the roof. The Columbia City fire department was no longer needed.

The patient was transported to an area hospital in good condition with a laceration to his leg.

High Water Creates Problem Around Area

Torrential downpours, an already saturated ground and low lying areas all combined to create serious problems for motorists and even the Smith-Green schools Wednesday morning.

The Churubusco / Smith Twp. Fire Department was called to assist Noble county on a car submerged in the water on the county line just east of 650 East (Green Center Road) around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

A conservation officer and firefighter waded into the chest high deep water to hook cables onto the car to remove it from the road.

No one was found inside and no one had reported their car in the water to local sheriff departments.

Many roads in Whitley, Noble and Allen counties have been closed and some have even been washed out. The flooded roads created serious problems for the school corporation as buses had to change entire routes to pick up children.

Emergency service personnel wish to remind all drivers to use caution when driving in areas where high water is known to collect and never drive through any flooded areas.
