We are pleased to report that captain, Chris Tomlinson, is safely at home from the injuries he sustained in a house fire Tuesday evening. Below is an account of the events from that night and his recovery.

Only 1-hour after returning from Huntertown on a house fire, Churubusco units were called to the 6900 block of U.S. 33 on an attic fire. First arriving units arrived to find heavy smoke pushing from the roof and a homeowner outside spraying the flames with a garden hose.

For 6 years now, the department has been handing out awards for amazing rescues, life saving skills and of course, firefighter of the year. Each year, the committee bases their decision on things such as dedication, personality, attitude and the drive for the person(s) to go the extra mile.
